Say Your Goodbyes

from Greene Street by Joshua Starmer

/

lyrics

Airplane leaving first thing tomorrow
“Sure thing”, he said he’ll take her there
Sharp pain, all mixed up with sorrow
He wonders if he’ll see her again.

One way coach ticket to Paris
He walks her to security
He tries to act as if he could care less
He wonders if he’ll see her again.

It might not be for years
It might not be forever

Postcard of half naked statue
Flips it over reads a note to him:
“Food’s great, and so is the fashion”
He wonders if he’ll see her again.

Did she need to be free?
Did she need to go?
I remember her smiling
Smiling at me
Why did she leave?

He keeps up, sees her pictures on twitter
Looks like she’s having quite a time
Seasons change, his memory is fading
He thinks he’ll never see her again

It might not be for years
It might not be forever
So say your goodbyes.
